Your Hosts

Sarah Scoles is a journalist and the author of four books: Making Contact, They Are Already Here, Astronomical Mindfulness, and Countdown: The Blinding Future of Nuclear Weapons. Countdown was named one of the Wall Street Journal’s Top 10 Books of 2024. Sarah’s articles have appeared in publications like The New York Times, The Atlantic, Scientific American, Wired, Popular Science, and others. She has gotten her own best writing (and, as importantly, revising) done at the Chapter House.

Before becoming a journalist, Sarah worked in public education at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV. She earned an MFA in fiction from Cornell University and studied astrophysics as an undergraduate at Agnes Scott College.

Kim Stone works in national security by day, helping big government contractors win big contracts, and a woodworker whenever she has a free moment. Her woodshop is a space to be jealous of, and a place where she creates furniture that tells a story as surely as words on a page do. Kim grew up in a small farming town in Oregon, but has called Colorado home since 2001. She spent over two decades living the big city life in Denver, but has never felt more at home in Westcliffe. Kim made Chapter House the cozy cabin that it is and is excited to share it with others.

Together, they keep four dogs and one cat happy with lots of treats and hiking in the mountains from their home in nearby Silver Cliff. Both are active members of Custer County Search and Rescue.
